The four regions Zell am Ziller, Gerlos, Wald/Königsleiten, and Krimml/Hochkrimml connect the Zillertal valley with the neighbouring Pinzgau in Salzburg. Explore the many hiking trails in this remarkable alpine region, ranging from pleasant walks in nature to challenging summit tours for the best panoramic views.
Zell am Ziller and its neighbouring villages all offer spectacular hikes for thrill-seekers, as well as casual themed hiking trails suitable for families with children. The Kreuzjoch tour is a challenging hike up to 2.558 m above sea-level and rewards all hikers at the top with spectacular panoramic views. But if you prefer a more relaxed pace or would love to hike with your family and children, we recommend the Rosenalm circuit hike up to the Grünalm alpine hut and then back down the fragrant fir and stone pine woods. The themed hiking trail includes stations to heighten your senses along the way, making this nature playground even more exciting. Another delightful family-friendly hike is along the Ziller river hiking path, which is always an invigorating experience.
A prized possession and excellent souvenir to all hikers in our region is the Arena "Wandernadel" Hiking Badge. The hiking pass gives hikers the opportunity to collect points for each hike, making it especially exciting for children to stamp their "Arenafunten" Hiking Pass for their accomplishments while having fun out in the fresh alpine air. The Crystal Hiking Pass is a constant companion for all hikers ready for a challenge. The hiking pass for adults and children is available in our tourism offices.
The Hikers' Bus and the Arena Shuttle are convenient bus services which give you the opportunity to embark on many different hiking tours throughout the Zillertal. This bus service is free for our guests holding a valid Arenacheck from Zell and Gerlos, the guest card, and the Zillertal Activcard.
